importations at the start of the 20th century

Commissions of veterinaries and officers were regularly sent into the desert and later to other parts of the globe in search of the best root stock of purebred Arabian and, that is, ameliorate constantly the quality of the Spanish breeding stock…

Yeguada Militar

Here are some of the most important acquisitions made during that time (nearly all of them made by the Yeguada Militar). They would definitely leave a mark on the purebred Arabian breeding in Spain, the horses imported from 1905 to 1912 being found nowadays in most of the bloodlines.
(At the beginning they only imported few Arabian stallions from France, but they were only used for crossbreedings)

From the Desert the stallion MUSTAFA (sire of the mare NAVIN )
and the mares BINT (dam of VARSOVIA )
YMN (dam line of CONGO )
ZULIMA  (grandmother in dam line of the mare SIRIA )
from Syria the mare ZARIFA  (dam of EUTERPE )

    1906

From the Desert the stallion AB (grandsire of  SIRIA )
from Poland the stallion JELIOTROP (Poland was occupied by the Russians)
  and 2 full sisters KADRANKA (dam line of ZANCUDO)
    KEBREBASSA (dam line of many stallions)

   1908

from Poland 2 stallions WAN DICK (sire line of many stallions )
    NOWIK ( sire of CAMELO and SIRIA )
   and the mares DAMIETTA ( dam line of AGATA II )

From the Desert the great stallion SEANDERICH     who will become one of the two most important Spanish breed leaders especially through his sons ILUSTRE (sire of CONGO )and ECO ( sire of BARQUILLO)  
  and the mares FARJA I  ( dam line of GOMARA )
    FATIMA ( grandmother in dam line of DIVINA )
    SAMBRY ( grandmother in dam line of  FIANZA )

1912

from Poland  the stallions ORNIS, 3/4 brother of the legendary SKOWRONECK
    URSUS who will become the 2nd most important Spanish breed leader
from  Egypt  the stallions KOROSKO  ( sire of FONDAK, EUTERPE, FIANZA.etc.... )
    FARJAN    
    SABAT EL HEIR   ( sire of ALFANJE )

1923 

from France the mares KENIA,    KADIDJA II ( (who left very few descendants))   SULTANE and her filly SADA YAMA ( dam line of NEGUS II )   imported by the brothers Guerrero

 1926 

 from  Egypt the stallion SAWAH THE SECOND (by Sr Guerrero ) ) who would appear in the pedigree of many existing horses.

1927

from the Desert the mare GHAZEL ( sire line of URAL, NAVARRO III)
  the stallions BAGDAD (great-father in sire line ALHABAC )
    MAROUF

The first pure Spanish Arabian private breeder was the Marquis de Domecq in 1910, who bought back few stallions not used by the Yeguada Militar, but the only importations made by private breeders were the work of the brothers Guerrero.
From 1920, two new private breeders started to breed pure Arabian stock and would have a significant influence on the Spanish breeding stock:
The name of Don José Maria De Ybarra, whose son Luis would take over, is still associated today to the pure Spanish Arabian breeding

Don Cristobal Colon ( descendant of Christopher Colombus in direct line),better known as the Duke of Veragua , bought back all mares of the Marquis de Domecq  after the death of the later in 1921 ( EUTERPE, BENI AMER, FIANZA ,   etc... )
